Button love and a pattern freebie

I love buttons. Everyone loves buttons right? If you’re a crafter there is every chance that somewhere in your house there is a large stash of buttons just waiting for the perfect project. This said, when Jessie Jumbles asked on Twitter whether anyone would like a sample of her buttons to review for a blog I jumped at the chance. I’m glad I did, look at the little beauties that arrived…

Aren’t they lovely? And that vintage playing card is a great touch. I already had an idea in mind for the buttons, something which I had been planning for a while, so in the spirit of generosity I am going to share the pattern for these fingerless gloves with you lovely readers.

You will need:

A set of 4.5mm double pointed needles

DK weight yarn

4 buttons from your stash or from Jessie Jumbles shop (have a browse, you know you want to)

Pattern- make 2

Cast on 36 stitches and divide equally between the dpns. Place a marker at the beginning of the round

Round 1- work K2, P2 rib for 5cm

Next Round- work stocking stitch for 6cm

Divide for thumb opening- work 1 round to the marker in stocking stitch, turn and work flat for 4cm

Rejoin palm- rejoin at marker and work for 3cm

Edge pattern

Round 1- K1, P1, continue to end of row

Round 2- P1, K1, continue to end of row

Repeat these two rows once more

Cast off in pattern, darn in ends and position buttons. Sew on firmly and you should end up with something like this

This is the first pattern I’ve written and ‘published’ so if you have any questions then please ask away, and I hope you like it 🙂
